Sign Up for a Library Card
If you live, work, or attend school in Jackson County, you are eligible for a Jackson District Library Card. To sign up for a JDL Card, please visit a nearby branch and make sure you have photo ID and other verification documents if necessary.
Applicants who supply a copy of their valid Michigan Driver's License or Michigan State ID do not need to supply any more identification. Applicants without a valid State ID can supply a photo ID as well as tax statement, recent bill, bank statement or another address verification option. A list of frequently asked questions is below. JDL staff are currently working to have an online library card sign up form available soon. Until then, please be prepared to come into a branch to sign up for a card.
For now, to obtain a library card, you will have to visit one of the Jackson District Library branches and present one piece of photo identification verifying your name and current address. Soon, applicants will be able to sign up for cards online.
A library card is free for all Jackson County residents and for individuals who work or go to school in Jackson County. For people who do not live, work, or go to school in Jackson County, an annual subscription costs $75.00. Non-residents may also purchase a 6-month membership card for $40.00.
The annual fee for a non-resident to maintain a Jackson District Library card is $75.00, or $40.00 for a half year. A single piece of photo identification showing your current name and address is required.
A pin number is a 4-digit number that you select at the time of obtaining a library card. If you do not remember your PIN number we can look it up for you.
Report the card lost immediately. You are responsible for any materials checked out on your card until you have reported it lost or stolen.
A Jackson District Library card is required to check out materials from the Jackson District Library or from the Jackson College Library. It is also required to use most of the online databases on this website.
