Donations to the Library
The Jackson District Library actively encourages donations from area residents and community partners in a number of different ways, above and beyond simply monetary donations. We encourage people to donate their TIME by volunteering at the library, donate their TALENT by sharing their skills with us, or donate the old-fashioned way by donating their TREASURE and providing JDL with a monetary donation. Clicking the TIME or TREASURE buttons below will direct you to various pages on our website to help you donate your time or treasure to your local library. Clicking the TALENT button below will connect you to our Community Services Department.

Examples of volunteering opportunities and donating your time include supporting JDL storytimes, general housekeeping, greeting or directing patrons during events, setting up and tearing down before and after programs, signing your neighbors up for a JDL card, and more; examples of donating your talent include sharing your skills, craft, or knowledge with the general public through an event or program hosted and organized through a partnership between you and JDL; and examples of programs your monetary donations help us enhance and expand include Jackson Storyfest, Young Poets, and Summer Discover, as well as upgrade our capital improvement projects throughout the district.
Offering your treasure to the library can also include donations in honor or in memory of someone special. If a specific title is requested for our collection a nameplate can be added to the item. Also, a letter can be sent to a family member letting them know of the donation. Additionally, through the advice of an estate planning attorney, JDL can be named in a will, trust, or bequest. Please contact us by email or by phone at 517-905-1308 to receive information on how this is handled.

Library Giving Day started as an idea generated by the Seattle Public Library Foundation. The concept was to create a national day of giving that public libraries would rally around and that the public would embrace. Community members from all around the country are encouraged to donate to their local, public libraries annually on April 1. JDL organized and hosted its inaugural Library Giving Day luncheon at the Cascades Manor House in 2025.
Jackson District Library reserves the right to refuse any gifts within its discretion that may not be in keeping with its mission, values, goals, and policies. All records pertaining to established and potential donors will be kept confidential to the extent allowed by law. Donors who wish to remain anonymous will be listed as “Anonymous” on recognition plaques and in library publications.
