The 2015 summer reading program runs until July 31. Register online or at your favorite branch to earn punches on your JDL Bucks Card.
Kids, teens, and adults may register online for Summer Reading. The online form has all the information that the paper forms, which are found in our branches. Readers will be able to register at home, from a tablet or smart phone, or by stopping by in any branch. You can print off a reading log from this page or pick one up at a branch. Please note that logs are not required for adults—just tell us what you read! Reading logs can be redeemed at any branch.
There are “JDL Bucks” and punch cards for all reading levels. Bucks can be redeemed for prizes that vary in price from 1 Buck to 5 Bucks. All prizes for children under 3 will be worth 1 JDL Buck.
- 0 – 6th grade: READ for 2 hours = 1 punch
- 6th grade – 12th grade: READ for 3 hours = 1 punch
- 6 punches = entry into the GRAND PRIZE Drawing!
Every child reader will receive an entry for the appropriate age level prize when they return a reading log. We will be giving away 8 iPod Touches as District-Wide Grand Prizes to independent and teen readers. We will be giving away 2 $100.00 gift cards to family readers. All children/teens will receive 1 entry when they complete 6 reading logs. District-Wide Grand Prizes will be drawn at the Carnegie Library on August 3rd.

Summer Reading Programs
The Family Reader program is for children up to kindergarten age who are being read to by a parent, guardian, sibling, etc. Family Readers will receive a book for signing up, and will receive a punch on their JDL Bucks card for each reading log they return. Logs will typical take 2 hours to complete. You can either redeem the Buck immediately, or save for a larger prize. All Family Readers who complete 6 reading logs will be eligible to win one of two $100 gift cards. Any Family Reader younger than three years old will have a special box of prizes redeemable with JDL Bucks. All prizes in this box will be worth 1 Buck. Family Readers older than age three will have a variety of prizes to choose from ranging in price from 1 JDL Buck to 5 Bucks. Family Readers may earn a maximum number of 20 JDL Bucks.
The Independent Reader program is for children in grades 1-6. Children going into grade 6 will have the option to do the Teen Read Program. All teens going into 7th grade are to do the Teen Read Program. Please keep in mind, new readers do not have to do all the reading on their own – they may still do shared reading with an older sibling, parent, etc. Independent Readers will receive a book for signing up, and receive a punch on their JDL Bucks card for each reading log they return. Logs will typical take 2 hours to complete. You can either redeem the Buck immediately for a prize or save for a larger prize. All Independent Readers who complete 6 reading logs will be eligible to win one of 8 iPod Touches we are giving away district-wide. Independent Readers will have a variety of prizes ranging in price from 1 JDL Buck to 5 JDL Bucks to choose from. There will be a maximum of 20 JDL Bucks that can be earned.
The Teen Read program will be for teens entering grades 6 and up. Teens going into 6th grade have the option to do the Independent Reader program or the Teen Read program. Exceptions may be made if another program presents a better fit to those reading at a different level. Teens will read for 3 hours and receive a JDL Buck for each reading log returned. Instead of individual Bucks they will receive a JDL Buck card and get a punch for each reading log returned. Teen JDL Bucks can be redeemed for a prize (ranging in price from 1 JDL Buck to 5) or to replace a lost library card (1 JDL Buck) or to pay down library fines (1 JDL Buck = $1.00 off in fines). Teens who return 6 reading logs will be eligible to win one of 8 iPod Touches we are giving away district-wide.
The Adult Summer Reading program is for adults 18 and older. Read one book to receive a punch on your JDL Bucks Card. Redeem punches for prizes ranging in cost from 1 JDL Buck to 5 JDL Bucks, or more. Sample adult prizes include chocolate and coupons for local businesses/restaurants. Bucks can also be used for a replacement library card or to pay library fines. No reading log is required, just tell us what you have read. Adults will not qualify for a grand prize. This program runs until July 31, 2015.
